Last verified: October 30, 2026. Every date below was checked against the organizer’s own site or event listing. We recheck weekly through December and log every change at the bottom.

The short answer

  • Season: the first markets open the first weekend of November; most run through Christmas Eve; Leavenworth’s lights stay up into February.
  • The one real German style Christmas market: the Seattle Christmas Market at Seattle Center, Nov 20 to late December. Ticketed.
  • Best free market: Edmonds Holiday Market, six Saturdays from Nov 7.
  • Best east of the mountains: Riverfront Park Holiday Village, Spokane, Dec 10 to 13.
  • Leavenworth’s Christkindlmarkt is not running. Christmastown is, Nov 27 to Dec 24. What happened →

Washington has exactly one full German style Christmas market, and it’s in Seattle. Go on a weeknight in late November, when a ticket costs about a third of the December price.

Everything else is ours, and a lot of it is better for being local. Nordic markets in Seattle every November weekend. A Krampus night market in Stanwood. An oyster farm on Hood Canal that turns into a holiday market for two weekends. A heated tent under the Pavilion lights in Spokane.

Part one is the markets worth building a day around. Part two is the full calendar: 104 holiday markets, bazaars and makers markets, region by region, so you can find the one closest to home.

Are there Christmas markets in Washington State?

Yes, about a hundred holiday markets run each year, from Bellingham to Walla Walla. Only one is a full European style Christmas market (Seattle Center); the rest are Nordic markets, night markets, farm markets, makers markets and holiday bazaars.

When do Washington’s Christmas markets start?

The first weekend of November. Tomte at the Swedish Club and the Edmonds Holiday Market both open Nov 7, the Seattle Christmas Market opens Nov 20, and Thanksgiving weekend is the biggest weekend of the season statewide.

Which Christmas markets in Washington are free?

Most of them. The big ticketed ones are the Seattle Christmas Market, Julefest and Holiday Magic in Puyallup. The full calendar below marks every one free or ticketed.

Is the Leavenworth Christkindlmarkt happening in 2026?

No. It hasn’t run a 2025 or 2026 edition. Leavenworth’s Village of Lights still runs daily from Thanksgiving weekend to Christmas Eve. Read what to do instead →

Seattle Christmas Market (Seattle Center)

The closest thing Washington has to a European Christmas market: glühwein and Bavarian beer, bratwurst, pretzels and stollen, potato pancakes, a carousel, and a heated Alpen Haus inside Fisher Pavilion. Worth it, with one catch: it’s ticketed, and prices climb hard in December.

  • When: Nov 20 to Dec 26, closed Thanksgiving (Nov 26) and Christmas Day. (checked Oct 23).
  • Hours: Nov 20 to Dec 13, weekdays 4 to 9 PM, weekends and Black Friday 11:30 AM to 9 PM. Dec 14 to 18, 11:30 AM to 9 PM. Dec 19 to 23, 10 AM to 9:30 PM. Christmas Eve 10 AM to 7 PM. Dec 26, 11:30 AM to 9 PM.
  • Tickets: timed entry in 30 minute windows. Late November about $7 to $11; December peak about $20 to $22. Season Pass $31.99. Kids 6 and under free.
  • Where: 305 Harrison St, Seattle Center · Map · indoor and outdoor (heated Alpen Haus) · cashless
  • Getting there: the Monorail from Westlake Center lands at Seattle Center.
  • 2026 status: dates posted on seattlechristmasmarket.com (checked Oct 20).
  • Coffee nearby: Coffee Tab, Belltown
  • The thing nobody tells you: there’s no reentry. If you’ll go twice, the Season Pass pays for itself and skips the time slot.

Seattle’s Nordic November: three markets

Seattle does Scandinavian Christmas better than anywhere else in the state, two of the three in Ballard, and in November you can hit all three on three weekends.

  • Tomte Holiday Market, Swedish Club (Nov 7 and 8): live reindeer Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM, a Swedish meatball meal, Nordic choirs, and a Swedish pancake breakfast Sunday. Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, Sunday 8 AM to 2 PM. Pay what you can, $5 suggested. 1920 Dexter Ave N.
  • Finnish Holiday Market, Leif Erikson Hall (Nov 14): one day, free, volunteer run, with Finnish baked goods and coffee (pulla), live music and kids’ activities. 10 AM to 3 PM. 2245 NW 57th St.
  • Julefest, National Nordic Museum (Nov 20 to 22): the biggest of the three. More than 40 vendors outdoors under string lights, æbleskiver on the weekend, and a 21+ beer garden pouring glögg and mead. Friday 21+ night market 5 to 9 PM ($20 online, and it covers the whole weekend); Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM ($12 online). 2655 NW Market St.

Verdict: if you only do one, do Julefest. If you love this stuff, do all three.

  • When: Sat Dec 19, 3 to 9 PM. The Krampus parade is at 7 PM.
  • 2026 status: confirmed by Krampus Stanwood by email (Oct 20). Their site may still show the parade at 5:30; that’s a typo they’re fixing.

Tacoma: two markets

Tacoma doesn’t have a Christmas market, but it has two good holiday markets. Midwinter Frost mixes carnival games and crafts at Freighthouse Square (Sat Dec 12, 11 AM to 4 PM), and that one works for kids.

Leavenworth: Village of Lights

Still the most Christmas town in Washington: more than half a million lights, alphorns, choirs and Santa on Front Street, with food vendors in Front Street Park daily, 10 AM to 7 PM. It’s a lights festival, not a market. Worth the drive, on a weekday if you can.

  • Parking: no reservation needed. Downtown lots charge; the Park and Rides are free, and Link Transit’s free Route 32 shuttle runs into town.
  • What happened to the Christkindlmarkt? It hasn’t run a 2025 or 2026 edition, and Leavenworth’s festival pages no longer list it. Plenty of holiday lists still do. The full story, and what to do instead →
  • Pair it with: Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee, whose Holiday Kickoff weekend (Nov 27 to 29) brings the Great Holiday Market, Santa at noon Saturday and a tree lighting with the Columbia Chorale Saturday at 5 PM. Free. Pybus comes back Dec 18 to 20 with the Last Minute Market.

Driving over the mountains

  • Leavenworth from Seattle: US 2 over Stevens Pass. Ellensburg, Yakima, Tieton, Spokane and the Tri-Cities: I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass.
  • Traction tires or chains can be required on any pass from November on. Check the WSDOT mountain pass reports the morning you leave.
  • Islands: Bainbridge is a walk on ferry from Seattle; Greenbank Farm is the Mukilteo to Clinton ferry. Check Washington State Ferries for holiday weekend waits.

Planning tips

  • Go early in the season. Late November is cheaper at Seattle Center and quieter everywhere.
  • Check the date before you drive. Several markets post only a few weeks out, and winter weather cancels days.
  • Make it a day. Pair a market with the lights: Leavenworth and Wenatchee, Port Angeles and Sequim, Puyallup’s market inside Holiday Magic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Washington State have a German style Christmas market?

Yes, one: the Seattle Christmas Market at Seattle Center, with glühwein, bratwurst, a carousel and timed entry tickets, from late November to late December. For Scandinavian versions, Seattle has three Nordic markets in November, two of them in Ballard.

Is the Leavenworth Christkindlmarkt still happening?

Not currently. It hasn’t run a 2025 or 2026 edition, and Leavenworth’s festival pages no longer list it. Leavenworth’s Village of Lights still runs daily from Thanksgiving weekend to Christmas Eve, with food vendors in Front Street Park.

Do you need tickets for the Seattle Christmas Market?

Yes. Entry is timed in 30 minute windows, there’s no reentry, and prices rise in December. Kids 6 and under are free.

Do you need a reservation to visit Leavenworth at Christmas?

No. Downtown lots charge for parking, and the free Route 32 shuttle runs from the Park and Rides.

Which Christmas markets in Washington are free?

Most of them. Edmonds, Kendall Yards and Riverfront Park in Spokane, the Vancouver Holiday Market, Wintertide in Port Angeles, BIMA’s night market on Bainbridge, the Finnish Holiday Market in Ballard and Leavenworth’s Village of Lights are all free to enter. The big ticketed ones are the Seattle Christmas Market, Julefest and Holiday Magic in Puyallup.

Is there a Christmas market in Tacoma or the Tri-Cities?

Not a European style one, but both have holiday markets. Tacoma has the PNW Holiday Market (Nov 28, 21 and over) and Midwinter Frost (Dec 12). In the Tri-Cities, downtown Kennewick has two markets on Dec 5, and Custer’s craft show fills Pasco’s HAPO Center Nov 6 to 8.

Explore Washington State has been covering the real Washington for more than a decade. State parks, small towns, back roads, rest stops, and the people who make this place worth exploring. What started as a hyperlocal project covering individual communities grew into a full media project with more than 340 podcast episodes, a weekly newsletter with over  6,400 subscribers, and coverage of more than 140 Washington state parks. The content here comes from people who have actually been to these places: locals, regulars, and lifelong Washington residents who care more about getting it right than getting clicks.
