Anthem Coffee and Tea Tacoma

The Reynolds family bought a Forza coffee franchise in downtown Puyallup in late 2006. When the five year contract ran out they did not renew it: Forza closed on Halloween 2011 and an Anthem Coffee and Tea banner went up the next morning. They launched with two locations, the Puyallup store and this one in downtown Tacoma, which makes 1911 Pacific Avenue an original rather than a branch. Bryan Reynolds runs it with his parents Janie and Larry, and the family started the business after adopting a five year old girl who had been through twelve foster homes.

Dillanos Coffee Roasters roasts for Anthem, including the Live Loud Blend that the espresso menu is built on. The drinks list runs further than most: lavender white chocolate mochas, honey matcha lattes and a passionfruit tango tea lemonade all turn up by name.

There is a real kitchen attached, not a pastry case. Flatbread pizzas are the thing Google's own listing leads with, and the bakery and kitchen operation for the group runs out of the Point Ruston store. Beer and wine have been part of the concept since the 2011 launch.

One caution and one quirk. Anthem's Stadium District location on N G Street has closed, so confirm which Anthem you are heading to before you drive. And the hours are 7am to 4pm most days with one exception: Wednesday runs to 8pm, the only evening this shop keeps.
