Last verified: October 28, 2026. Every date below was checked against the organizer or a current listing, and anything not yet posted for 2026 says so. We recheck through December.
Leavenworth turns into a Bavarian Christmas village every winter, with over half a million lights on the buildings and trees downtown. It’s one of the best known holiday lights trips in the state, and the crowds are part of the deal.
This is the 2026 version: what’s on, what changed, how to park without circling for an hour, and where to get something hot. Dates marked 2026 come straight from the Leavenworth Chamber or the city. Where they haven’t posted yet, we give last year’s and say so.
The short version
- Dates: Christmastown runs Nov 27 to Dec 24, 2026, every day, not just weekends.
- The lights are on 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, Thanksgiving through February. There’s no lighting ceremony anymore, so there’s no reason to fight for a spot at dusk.
- It’s free. The lights, the Festhalle and the music in the gazebo cost nothing. Parking does.
- Parking is $4.50 an hour every day in December. The free option is the park and ride behind Safeway with the free Route 32 shuttle into town.
- Go midweek. The Chamber says weekends fill fast. Since parking costs the same every day in December, a Tuesday costs you nothing extra.
No more lighting ceremony
For years the Village of Lights was known for its weekend lighting ceremonies, when the lights were switched on at dusk. That ended in 2021. The Chamber dropped them to spread out the crowds, and its December FAQ now says plainly: “We no longer ‘flip the switch’ at a certain time on weekends.”
The lights now stay on from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. They look best after dark, and in early December it’s dark early. Sunset in Leavenworth is about 4:11 to 4:15 p.m. from late November through mid December, and the mountains around town can bring the dusk on a little sooner.
What’s on in 2026
Christmastown runs Friday, Nov 27 through Thursday, Dec 24, 2026, daily. The Chamber notes the schedule can change with the weather.
- The Festhalle (1001 Front St) is free and open Sunday to Thursday noon to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 6 p.m. (3 p.m. on Christmas Eve). Inside: kids’ crafts, free gift wrapping, the gingerbread house exhibition, letters to Santa and photo stations.
- Front Street Park has food vendors daily, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Free music at the gazebo: Fridays 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., plus some weekdays Dec 21 to 24.
- Strolling carolers downtown daily, 5 to 7 p.m., Dec 1 to 23.
- Santa is at the gazebo noon to 1 p.m. most days, with Festhalle photos 2 to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 2 to 4 p.m. on weekends.
- Evening shows at the Festhalle, paid at the door: Elf on Nov 28 at 7 p.m. ($8), the “Merry Christmas From Leavenworth” concert Dec 5 at 7 p.m. ($5), The Jewel Tones Motown Christmas Show Dec 12 at 8 p.m. ($15), and Manuela Horn and Her Slay Belles Dec 20 and 22 at 5 p.m. ($15, kids 12 and under $5).
Front Street itself has been closed to cars since 2020. It’s a walking street, so there’s no driving past the main display.
Also worth the hour: the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, 735 Front St, open Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adults are $5, seniors $3.50, ages 6 to 16 $2 and kids under 6 free. It’s busiest on weekend afternoons in December, so go in the morning, and call ahead about holiday closures, (509) 548-4573.
Parking: what it costs and where to go
Parking in Leavenworth is paid year round, and every day in December 2026 is billed at the top rate.
- Downtown lots (Aasgard, Blewett, Colchuck next to the Festhalle, Dragontail, Freund): $4.50 an hour, paid 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. On busy days the lots also show flat rates of $35 (early) and $40 (all day).
- Remote lots (Glacier at 170 US Hwy 2, Horseshoe Lake at 1340 US Hwy 2): also $4.50 an hour in December. Glacier has EV chargers and trailer stalls.
- Street parking: $4.50 an hour, with a 3 hour limit.
- Pay at the kiosk, in the ParkMobile app, or by texting ParkCOL to 727563 for street parking.
The free way in: park at the Willkommen Park and Ride, 200 Ward Strasse behind Safeway at the east end of town, and ride Link Transit’s Route 32 shuttle downtown. It’s fare free. On Christmastown Fridays and Saturdays (Nov 27 and 28, Dec 4 and 5, 11 and 12, 18 and 19) and on Dec 26, Route 32 leaves the park and ride every 15 minutes from 11:30 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Link’s Route 22 from Wenatchee is also fare free, so if you’re coming from the Wenatchee Valley you can leave the car at home. On those festival days most Route 22 trips end at the park and ride, so change to Route 32 there.
Two rules that catch people:
- On Christmastown weekends last year, the city banned parking on both sides of several residential streets near downtown (Pine, Ski Hill, Evans, Commercial, Burke and Cedar) and towed. The 2026 list isn’t posted yet; expect similar rules.
- From Nov 15 to Mar 15 there’s no overnight parking on city streets, so don’t plan to sleep in the car on a side street.
Getting there: US 2 in winter
From the west side, you’re coming over Stevens Pass on US 2. Check WSDOT’s pass report before you leave.
Last winter showed how fast that can change. An atmospheric river in December 2025 left the Front Street Park lights dark for a weekend and closed the Festhalle during a power outage, and US 2 through Tumwater Canyon was closed by flooding from mid December until Feb 10, 2026. Leavenworth stayed reachable by US 97 and I-90. Permanent repairs happened this summer. Check for any work in the canyon before you go.
In 2024, WSDOT asked drivers to stay on US 2 and not cut through on North Road, Chumstick Highway or East Leavenworth Road.
Nearby in the Wenatchee Valley

If you’re staying down valley, a couple of smaller events are worth knowing. Both have confirmed their 2026 dates.
- Pybus Public Market, Wenatchee: Holiday Kickoff weekend, Nov 27 to 29, with the Great Holiday Market, Santa at noon on Saturday, and the tree lighting with the Columbia Chorale on Saturday, Nov 28 at 5 p.m. Free.
- East Wenatchee’s Wings N Wishes Tree Lighting: Thursday, Dec 3, 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall. The choir sings at 6, Santa arrives at 6:15 and the lights come on about 6:20. Santa’s Village runs until 8.

Where to get something hot
Leavenworth is a bakery town. Call ahead, because December hours change.
- The Gingerbread Factory, 829 Front St: the best evening hours we found, open until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.
- J5 Coffee, 215 9th St: a local roaster with chocolate from 5 Sparrows. Daytime hours, closed Sundays except festival Sundays.
- Argonaut Coffee and Biscuits, 220 US Hwy 2: espresso and biscuits.
- The Danish Bakery, 731 Front St, and Homefires Bakery, 1329 US Hwy 2: pastries and something warm for the walk back to the car.
