J5 Coffee

J5 calls this 9th Street shop its Flagship Espresso Bar and Mercantile, and the second word matters. Shelves hold the company's favorite coffee makers and brewing devices along with the gear to use them, and beans go out by the pound. The espresso comes off a French made machine, and there is a pour over bar for anyone who wants to slow down.

J5 roasts its own coffee, and its Leavenworth Chamber listing says it has done so for more than ten years, though the company does not say which building the roasting happens in. The bags include Emperor's Espresso, described as medium bodied with brown sugar and blueberry, Sumatra Takengon Ketiara, heavy bodied with plum, chocolate and molasses, and a water processed decaf. The bar says its drinks use an organically grown espresso blend.

The rest of the drink list comes from other small makers J5 names outright: chai and house chocolate from 5 Sparrows in Montana and loose tea from Flying Bird Botanicals in Bellingham, plus cold brew and Italian sodas. The drink menu lists no food, so treat this as a coffee and gear stop rather than breakfast.

J5 runs a second bar, the Front St. Espresso Bar at 707 US Highway 2 Suite E, and the two keep different hours. This one is open 9am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on Saturday, and closed Sunday except on festival Sundays and the Sundays of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, per J5's site. Mobile orders through the Joe Coffee app are picked up at the Front Street bar, not here.
