About

Coffee TAB runs as a workforce program as much as a cafe. Young adults facing barriers to employment train here through paid barista apprenticeships of 8 to 12 weeks, and the program also covers job applications, interviewing, customer service and personal finance. Johnathan Tran founded it in 2022 as a nonprofit, with a stated mission of helping people live a higher quality life through a higher quality cup of coffee. Up to five apprentices work each cohort, so the person pulling your shot may be a few weeks into the job.

The shop does not name the roaster behind its coffee, and we could not confirm one. Fulcrum Coffee, a Seattle roaster, backed the program with equipment, including a La Marzocco espresso machine, and with coaching, according to Fulcrum's own blog. Whether the beans also come from Fulcrum is not stated anywhere we found. The menu leans on lattes, and retail bags carry the Coffee TAB logo.

Belltown is the flagship. In spring 2025 the shop moved from a 230 square foot grab and go counter on 3rd Avenue to this space one block over, a former corporate coffee location, and Tran told Intentionalist that summer that it now has tons of seats. The food case covers breakfast paninis and sandwiches, including a Spicy Bacon Sandwich, along with a Cinnamon Roll, croissants, tarts and cakes.

Google lists the Belltown shop at 7am to 3pm daily, while Coffee TAB's own site says 7am to 4pm, so plan around the earlier close. There are two other locations: a weekday shop at 719 2nd Ave in the Central Business District, and a Central District shop at 2300 S Jackson St that was still waiting on permits in August 2026 and now appears on the site with hours. Pike Place Market is a few blocks south, which makes this an easy stop on a market morning.
