Park Overview
Lincoln Rock State Park sits on the east side of Lake Entiat, a reservoir created by Rocky Reach Dam that flooded the Columbia River valley in the 1960s. The park takes its name from the distinctive cliff formation visible across the water at the mouth of Swakane Canyon, first recognized as resembling Abraham Lincoln’s profile by steamboat crew members in 1898. This formation gained national recognition when photographed for The Ladies Home Journal in 1902 as part of an array titled “Rocks That Have Faces on Them,” establishing the area’s lasting identity.
Originally planned to be called Eastgate when developed in 1981 by Chelan County Public Utility District, the park’s name was changed to Lincoln Rock at local request. The park operates under a lease agreement with Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, creating a unique partnership between public utilities and state recreation management. Lincoln Rock State Park serves as a premier family destination combining water recreation on Lake Entiat with comprehensive camping amenities and access to the Rocky Reach Trail system along the Columbia River.
