About This Course: Home of the Rock Hole

Battle Creek Golf Course is a public par 73 on Meridian Avenue North, with a Marysville mailing address and a Tulalip name on its own website. The reason to make the drive is No. 12, “The Rock Hole,” a par 3 where you carry a short ravine and then have to get past a giant rock sitting in front of the green. Around it sits an 18 hole championship course that plays 6,575 yards from the back tees, plus a separate 9 hole par 3 course for quick rounds.

Four sets of tees make the championship course work for most games, the practice area is all grass, and the cafe opens before the first group goes off. Book a tee time for the championship course; the par 3 course takes walk ons only.

Course Overview

Battle Creek opened in April 1990, designed by Fred Jacobson and developed by Dave Richards and Fred Jacobson. The recent story is upkeep: the course paved all of its cart paths in 2024, added drainage improvements and new signage the same year, and finished aerifying its greens on September 16, 2026.

The card is built around par 5s. There are five of them, three on the back nine, running 458 to 544 yards from the Black tees, alongside nine par 4s and four par 3s. The front nine plays 3,242 yards and the back nine 3,333. Four par 4s measure 400 yards or more and the par 3s run 143 to 185 yards, so long irons matter as much as your driver. The Gold tees play 6,153 yards, the Silver 5,509 and the Copper 5,179, and the course lists an average pace of about four and a half hours.

• Hole 2, 458 yards, par 5: The first par 5 and one of the two shortest. An early birdie chance.
• Hole 4, 427 yards, par 4: The longest par 4 on the course. A solid drive leaves a mid iron in.
• Hole 7, 536 yards, par 5: The number 3 handicap hole. Plan it as three shots.
• Hole 8, 398 yards, par 4: The number 1 handicap hole for men, the hardest on the card.
• Hole 10, 544 yards, par 5: The longest hole on the course.
• Hole 11, 313 yards, par 4: The shortest par 4. Pick the tee club that leaves a full wedge.
• Hole 12, 185 yards, par 3: The Rock Hole. A forced carry over a short ravine, then a giant rock in front of the green. A second tee plays it at 200 yards.
• Hole 18, 421 yards, par 4: The number 2 handicap hole, so the round ends on one of its toughest tests.

Amenities and Practice

The practice area is all grass: a full swing driving range, two practice greens and a bunker. A large bucket is $9 and a small is $6. It keeps pro shop hours, except that it closes two hours early on Tuesdays and opens two hours late on Wednesdays for mowing.

Head Professional Alex Stacy and Director of Instruction John Brandvold, both PGA professionals, teach at $65 for a half hour and $105 for an hour, with junior lessons at $55 and $85. Rental clubs start at $40, or $10 for the par 3 course. Power carts are $18 per rider for 18 holes and $13 for 9, and pull carts are $8 and $6.

The par 3 course covers 1,113 yards, with holes from 89 to 200 yards, and a round takes 70 to 90 minutes.

Food and Drink

The cafe at Battle Creek opens daily for coffee and pastries 15 minutes before the first tee time, and its kitchen cooks breakfast, burgers and sandwiches, with bar service. Weekday hours run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April through September and 9 a.m. to dusk from October through March; weekends run 7 a.m. to dusk all year. Call 360-659-7931 and press 2.

Rates, Tee Times and Local Tips

These are the 2026 rates on the course’s own rate page as of September 30. On the championship course, 18 holes are $49 on weekdays and $56 on weekends, twilight 18 is $44 and $51, and 9 holes are $30 and $32. The par 3 course is $13.50 on weekdays and $15.50 on weekends, and $9 and $10 for juniors 17 and under. Juniors, seniors 65 and over, and active or retired military get 10% off green fees. From November 1 through February 28, the off season discount takes 15% off championship green fees and 20% off carts, and from October 1 to June 15 you get 25% off your green fee when it is actually raining. Prices exclude sales tax and can change without notice.

How to Score Here

• Attack the short par 5s. Holes 2 and 16 are both 458 yards, and hole 16 is the number 18 handicap hole.
• On the Rock Hole, take enough club to carry the ravine and the rock, and aim for the middle of the green.
• Holes 8 and 18 carry the number 1 and 2 handicaps. Play them for par and take your bogey when you miss.
• Warm up on the par 3 course. It covers every wedge and short iron distance you will need.
