Welcome We’re glad you’re here!

We’re Scott and MacKenzie, and we’ve spent way too much time driving around Washington looking for great coffee and cool places most people don’t know about. What started as weekend adventures has turned into this site where we share all the local spots we’ve discovered the kind of places locals actually go, not the tourist traps everyone writes about.

Why We Started This Thing

Honestly? We got tired of the same recycled travel content about Pike Place Market and Mount Rainier. Don’t get us wrong, those places are great, but Washington has so much more. We’re talking about the family run bakery in a tiny town that makes incredible pastries, the hiking trail with amazing views but no crowds, or the brewery tucked away in an old warehouse that locals have been quietly enjoyingf or years.

We realized we were constantly telling friends about these places, so why not share them with everyone?

What Makes Us Different

Everything is written by locals. With over 600 articles published, we work with Washington residents who actually know their areas. When someone writes about a coffee shop in Bellingham or a trail near Spokane, it’s because they live there and have been going to these places for years.

We actually go to these places. Every single recommendation comes from our own experiences. Ifwe write about a coffee shop, it’s because Scott has personally tested their espresso (probably multiple times). If MacKenzie recommends a family spot, it’s because she’s been there with her kids.

We’re not trying to impress anyone. We skip the fancy resort write ups and focus on the authentic stuff. Small businesses that have been part of their communities for years. Places where the owners remember your name after a couple visits.

We’ve done our homework. Over the years, we’ve built a comprehensive directory of all 146 Washington State Parks—every single one mapped and covered. That’s not just weekend research;that’s serious exploration.

Scott Cowan- The Coffee Obsessive

Scott’s been all over Washington State, from his college days in Ellensburg (which took six years, but who’s counting?) to working in Olympia, Seattle, and Tacoma. These days he’s settled in Wenatchee, where he’s discovered that life without a daily commute is pretty fantastic.

His thing is finding exceptional coffee, good hard cider, and tacos worth driving for. He’s probably visited more independent coffee roasters than anyone should reasonably visit, but hey, someone has to do the research.

MacKenzie Passegger- The Perspective Keeper

Scott’s daughter MacKenzie grew up in Washington but currently lives in Austria with her family. Being away has given her this interesting outsider/insider perspective she knows what makes Washingtonspecial because she misses it every day.

When she’s back visiting (or researching from afar), she focuses on family-friendly spots and craft beer scenes. Plus, having kids means she’s excellent at finding places that work for real families, not just Instagram families.

How We Work

We publish new content several times a week because there’s always something new to discover. Our weekly newsletter gives you weekend inspiration without the spam, and our podcast digs deeper into Washington’s culture, history, and the stories behind the places we love.

We’re not travel influencers or professional writers we’re just Washington residents who happen to be really curious about this state and good at finding the authentic stuff.

The Honest Truth

We’re still figuring some things out. Washington is huge, and we’re always discovering new places or realizing we completely missed something obvious. But that’s part of what makes this fun there’s always another weekend adventure waiting.

We avoid chain restaurants, overcrowded attractions, and anywhere that feels like it’s designed primarily for tourists taking photos. If a place feels authentic and the locals love it, we’re probably goingto love it too.
