About This Course: A Riverside Classic Half a Mile off Interstate 5

Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis is an 18 hole public course on the banks of the Chehalis River, and it is worth the drive for greens the club is proud of, a covered driving range and a rooftop bar that looks straight down the 18th fairway. It sits about half a mile off Interstate 5, so it works as a stop on a Seattle to Portland run as easily as a home course.

The course plays 6,155 yards to a par of 71 from the Yellow tees, with a 68.4 rating and a 125 slope. The club calls it a beautiful walk with river views, more than twenty species of trees and white sand bunkers. It is open to the public seven days a week, and it has been family owned and operated since 2007.

Course Overview

According to the club, Riverside began in 1927 as a nine hole course and held its grand opening together with the neighboring airport, which is why the address is Airport Road. In the mid 1970s it grew into the full 18 holes that play today. The club has been in one family’s hands since 2007, and it has been a fixture of the Chehalis community for almost a century.

On the card, the front nine is the longer half at 3,258 yards and par 36, with the 545 yard 7th as the longest hole and the number 1 handicap. The back nine is shorter at 2,897 yards and par 35, but it holds both of the water carries the club calls out: the par 3 11th and the par 4 18th.

Hole by Hole Highlights

Yardages are from the Yellow tees and handicaps from the first handicap row on the course scorecard.

  • Hole 2, 409 yards, par 4: The longest par 4 on the course and the number 3 handicap, an early test of your driver.
  • Hole 4, 397 yards, par 4: The number 5 handicap; it plays as a par 5 for women.
  • Hole 7, 545 yards, par 5: The longest hole at Riverside and the number 1 handicap, a true three shot hole for most players.
  • Hole 11, 175 yards, par 3: The club’s signature short hole plays over water to a green that slopes severely from back to front, and it has been the site of many first holes in one. It is 135 yards from the White tees.
  • Hole 13, 186 yards, par 3: The longest par 3 on the card, so take enough club.
  • Hole 14, 527 yards, par 5: The number 2 handicap and the longer of the two back nine par 5s.
  • Hole 16, 491 yards, par 5: The shortest par 5 on the course and a real birdie chance late in the round.
  • Hole 18, 332 yards, par 4: Voted “Best Golf Hole in Lewis County” more than once, it asks for a tee shot over water and then a slightly uphill approach to a challenging green, right below the Rooftop Bar.

Amenities and Practice

Riverside has a covered driving range and a practice putting and chipping area, and an unlimited range pass for the calendar year is $600. The club rents electric carts, has a full pro shop and offers one on one lessons and TaylorMade club fittings through its staff; Austin Abbott is the head golf professional, and lessons are booked by inquiry through the pro shop.

Youth on Course members can play for $5 daily after 1 PM, or earlier with at least one paying adult. Men’s Club membership for 2026 is $90 and includes 15 percent off prime time 18 hole green fees and tee times two weeks ahead, and the Women’s Club season runs from the first Tuesday of April to the first Tuesday of October. Riverside also runs an RV park with 36 full hookup spaces along the 10th fairway, so you can stay, play and eat in one place.

Food and Drink

The Riverside Bistro and Rooftop Bar serves a casual, family friendly menu with daily specials and happy hour, including the club’s homemade clam chowder and rib eye, with indoor and patio seating. The Bistro is open Sunday and Tuesday 11 AM to 4 PM, Wednesday and Thursday 11 AM to 8 PM, and Friday and Saturday 11 AM to 9 PM, and it is closed Monday. The Rooftop Bar pours eight seasonal draft beers plus bottled beer, spirits and wine, with a view over the 18th hole.

Riverside is about half a mile off Interstate 5 and about a mile from downtown Chehalis, which makes it easy to pair a round with the rest of the town; our Chehalis guide covers where to eat and what to see. For a second round nearby, Newaukum Valley Golf Club is about 6 miles southeast.

How to Score Here

  • Get through the front nine before you attack. Holes 7 and 2 are the first and third hardest on the card, and par on both is a good start.
  • Club up on 11. It is a water carry to a green that runs hard from back to front, so a putt from below the hole is the one you want.
  • Use 16 as your birdie hole. At 491 yards it is the shortest par 5 on the course.
  • Commit to the tee shot on 18. The carry over water is the shot that matters, and the gallery on the rooftop is watching.

Final Word

Riverside is the kind of public course that makes a Chehalis stop worth planning: nearly a century of history, a covered range, two water holes the locals talk about and a cold beer on the roof when you finish.
