A dozen minutes south-east of downtown Bellingham, Sudden Valley Golf & Country Club squeezes 18 memorable holes between the glassy shores of Lake Whatcom and a forested ridge line that climbs toward the Cascades. Architect Ted Robinson (1970) framed wide, forgiving fairways on the lake-level front nine, then flipped the script with a back nine that hikes into tall evergreens, narrows the corridors, and flanks greens with trouble on every side. Water touches 14 holes, forty-plus bunkers dot the routing, and subtle uphill approaches make the course “play 5–10 percent longer than the card.”
