After a busy work week, we love going into the mountains to recharge. The best part about living in Seattle is that there are plenty of cabins and hiking trails in the mountains nearby. We always love traveling with our dog, Nike, and make a special point to find dog-friendly places (because dog lovers are our kind of hosts!) Here are five of our favorite dog-friendly cabins all over Washington!
Millard’s Cabin at Packwood
This unique blue cabin is amongst our favorites. Millard’s Cabin is actually named after their sweet pup Millard, so you know the owner is clearly an amazing dog lover! This secluded cabin comfortably holds six people, with a bunk bed in a separate guest room and a loft that was just renovated. There is nothing more relaxing after a hike than sitting in a hot tub, and their rustic cedar wood hot tub is the cabin highlight.
Be sure to check out the Packwood Trail — a moderate level hike that is 9 miles out-and-back with the payout being a serene alpine lake. This cabin is also conveniently located by Mt. Rainier National Park — you could spend a week here just visiting the park’s many trails (don’t miss the Skyline Trail in Paradise).
Sun Country Digs at Roslyn/Cle Elum
Sun Country Digs is one of the most stylishly modern cabins we’ve seen. This beautiful cabin can hold six people, with an adorable bunk bed upstairs. For those who want to just chill, there are two large TVs — one upstairs and downstairs — with access to literally every network subscription. The marble top and green cabinet kitchen is a dream for cooking. If you don’t want to deal with building a campfire but love the ambiance, this cabin is for you. A gas-powered outdoor fire pit (that is so easy to turn on for s’mores) and an indoor electric fireplace keep you cozy. There are an awesome Jacuzzi and grill in the back.
For an easy and leisurely hike, we recommend Lake Easton Trail. For some good eats, check out the pizza at Beau’s Pizza (the rustic ambiance is great for a date night).
Three-Peak Cabin at Gold Bar/Index
Have you ever had your own private access to an alpine river, forest and mountains? If not, head over to Three-Peak Cabin for a truly memorable experience, conveniently just an hour outside of Seattle. This farmhouse cabin has a balcony and backyard access to a private Skykomish River area in the backyard with stunning views. It can fit two to three people, or four if you don’t mind being cozy. Disconnect from everyday life as you fall asleep to the relaxing sound of an alpine river and enjoy the outdoor firepit where firewood is freely provided.
For an amazing hike, we recommend Bridal Veil Falls, located just a few minute’s drive from the cabin. This is a moderately difficult 4-mile out-and-back experience with a breathtaking waterfall. Visit Whistling Post Tavern for a hearty fried chicken dinner after your hike.
Little Bear Cabin at Leavenworth
This unique A-frame cabin is a must for those who want a weekend to do a bit of everything. The quaint Bavarian town of Leavenworth is about 25 minutes away with plenty of little stores and restaurants. Great times to visit are during the fall for stunning leaf colors and Oktoberfest, or winter for snow activities and the Christmas light ceremony. This A-frame has a balcony and a cozy wood-burning stove. Four guests can easily stay here, up to five for a cozy fit.
Nearby the cabin is one of the best breakfast diners we’ve had in recent memory, Old Mill Cafe. Their chicken fried steak and Brisket Biscuit are making me salivate as I type this right now. For an enjoyable and easy hike with a great payout, be sure to check out Lake Wenatchee.
Fern Retreat at Bellingham
This modern cabin has it all: ample space that fits six people, a large porch for outdoor dining, a Jacuzzi, an outdoor fire pit with wood provided, a private creek in the backyard, and lots and lots of ferns! With three bedrooms, and two baths this cabin can easily host a family retreat. The hosts have the most thoughtful touches, like a sign to welcome guests by name and a gift basket of coffee and cookies from local shops in Bellingham for you to take home.
For a truly memorable hike with a great payout, Oyster Dome Trail is located 20 minutes away. This trail is rated hard and is about 8 miles in and out, with a stunning view of Samish Bay. When we hiked to the top, we met a group eating some delicious sandwiches from Da Vinci’s near downtown Bellingham — be sure to grab a sandwich for your next hike.
We are looking for a cabin where my son and his dog can stay for an entire year at least. Could be more than one year. They love to live in woods and have a privacy. I used to live in the cabin in woods in Fairbanks, AK. I had a wood stove and an outhouse there. That was one bedroom with a water tunk and septic tank. But I had an electricity, Please let me know if there is any cabin in woods where has a road serive in winter time where the cars can drive and has a water, too. That was my happiest time in my life. This is for our son and his dog. My husband and I live in Anchorage, AK and we will be visitng them a few times a year. Thank you so much!
