Woods Coffee Boulevard Park

Of roughly two dozen Woods stores, this is the one that earns a trip on its own. It sits inside Boulevard Park at the foot of South Hill, in a building with a genuinely odd history: it once housed a lumber mill turbine, and later a community college pottery studio. A two sided fireplace faces the water on one side and the room on the other, so there is a good seat whichever way you want to look.

The patio is the reason people come. It looks straight across Bellingham Bay, and Taylor Dock and the boardwalk begin a few steps from the door. The walk from here along the water to Fairhaven runs about a mile and is a considerably better way to spend the gap between two coffees than driving it.

There is no drive through, and none is needed. Nobody arrives at a waterfront park to order from a car window. That absence is the clearest signal that Woods reads its locations individually rather than stamping the same store six times across one city.

The chain is a Whatcom County family operation, started in Lynden in 2002 and still family run, roasting its own coffee and baking its own pastries. Hours here stretch later on summer evenings, which is worth knowing because sunset over the bay from that patio is the whole point.
