Wide Awake Cafe and Espresso Center Street

This is where Wide Awake started. The Center Street shop opened in 2020 just west of J Street, and the company has grown from it to three locations in five years, most recently the waterfront shack on Ruston Way. It is primarily a drive through, which is the practical difference between this one and the walk up on the water: here you stay in the car and you get served before dawn.

The beans are Dillanos out of Sumner across all three shops. Dillanos shows up more than once in this directory, pouring at Anthem and having taught Campfire Coffee's owner to roast, so a cup here sits in a recognizable South Sound lineage rather than coming from nowhere.

The menu is shared with the other locations and leans further into food than most stands manage: pastries from Art of Crunch, breakfast and lunch sandwiches from Memoranda Kitchen, bagels from Blazing Bagels, plus breakfast burritos, breakfast bowls, avocado toast and oat bars. None of it is made on site, and all of the suppliers are named, which is the honest version of a grab and go case.

Hours run 5am to 6pm on weekdays, 6am Saturday and 7am Sunday, so it opens with the earliest group of stands in the city and stays open later than most of them. One caveat worth knowing: the company runs a second Center Street shop further east at 4002 Center Street, so check the address before you turn.
