The Muse Whiskey and Coffee

The building is the reason to come. Architect Carl Gould designed this Gothic style headquarters for the Weyerhaeuser Company in 1923, it has been barged to a new location twice, and it has sat on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986. It reopened in July 2023 at the Port of Everett's Waterfront Place, restored to 1920s standards, and the original two story concrete lined payroll vault is still in there. QR coded placards through the space link out to the building's history, which makes this a working museum that also sells coffee.

Know before you go that this is two operations under one roof. Cafe service runs from 7am to 4pm and covers espresso, drip, teas, bagels, sandwiches and baked goods. At 4pm a separate room within the building opens as a speakeasy style whiskey bar with its own menu of small plates, and it runs into the evening on reservation or walk in. A daytime visitor and an evening visitor are having two entirely different experiences in the same address.

The drink that bridges the two is the Dark Walnut, at 22 dollars: Jameson, housemade walnut and pistachio syrups, and espresso. The bar side runs from nine dollar pours to one bottle listed at forty eight thousand. The room is done in deep greens and blues with gold accents, and the liquor sits in a mirrored backlit case reached by a sliding golden ladder.

One precision worth keeping straight. The restoration won Historic Renovation of the Year at the 2023 NAIOP Night of the Stars awards, and that award went to the building work, credited to The Schuster Group, not to the coffee or the bar program. Owners Jack Ng and Jin Ma of NGMA Group run the business. No source names their coffee roaster.
