ROAM Coffee + Beer

ROAM opened in November 2022 as Wander Brewing's coffee half, roughly a mile from the brewery itself, in the building that used to hold the Carne butchery. The arrangement is unusual and it works because the two halves run at different times of day rather than competing for the same hour.

Mornings are espresso and pastries. By evening there are nine Wander beers on tap and a beer garden out back for the warm months. That gives the place a longer useful day than almost anything else in Bellingham coffee, where the standard closing time is two or three in the afternoon.

The window is worth calling out on its own. It takes drive up, walk up and pedal up traffic, and in Bellingham the pedal up lane is not a novelty item. A city this committed to bikes produces real demand for a window you can roll up to without locking anything.

Two practical notes, and the second one is the reason to keep this entry in mind. Sunday closes at 6pm, two hours earlier than the rest of the week, so a Sunday evening plan needs checking first. And if you land in Bellingham after half past four wanting a coffee rather than a beer, your options narrow to Locus, ROAM and the Woods stores. That is the entire list for a city with this much good coffee in it, which is the single most useful thing a visitor can know about the place.
