Makario Coffee Roasters

The shop's own telling starts in 2011, when its founder David moved to Seattle from California, fell for coffee, and then fell harder once he got past the simple stuff and into pour over. That is the origin of the business now sitting at 2613 Colby Avenue in downtown Everett, and it is a more specific reason to exist than most cafes offer.

Makario sells coffee under its own name rather than pouring somebody else's. There is a house Makario Blend alongside single origins and flavored coffees, which puts it in a different category from the shops nearby that rotate guest roasters or pour one outside label. The site is careful about the craft and quiet about the address of the roastery, so what you can count on is the branded coffee rather than a roasting room you can look into.

Position is the practical argument for stopping. Colby Avenue puts it a few minutes on foot from Narrative and Nadines, inside the walkable core where you can park once and work through several shops in a morning. Live in Everett has covered the place twice, both times under its earlier name, Cafe Makario, which still turns up on delivery listings and travel sites.

Plan the visit around the clock and the calendar. Makario runs Tuesday through Saturday, 8am to 4pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday. That Sunday closure is worth noting because the downtown farmers market sets up on Sundays between Mother's Day weekend and early October, so the one morning the neighborhood is busiest is the morning this particular door is locked.
