Locus

The founding story is the hook and it does not need embellishing. Two women who met while working a drive up espresso stand took the keys to the Holly Street space on January 1, 2020 and opened in early March. Everyone knows what happened next. Locus came through it, and in October 2024 it added a second location in Barkley Village.

The original room is still the reason to pick it. Graffiti murals in teal and orange, Edison bulbs strung over the bar, booths in the front windows, armchairs at the back, and a patio with flowers when the weather allows. It reads as somewhere designed by people who intended to stay.

The coffee is Tony's, roasted in Bellingham since 1971, so the beans have a longer local history than the cafe pouring them. By late afternoon the operation changes character entirely: sixteen taps and a working kitchen, which is what makes this the date option rather than the laptop one.

It also solves the city's real scheduling problem. Bellingham coffee closes early, most of it by two or three, and if you arrive at half past four wanting a pour over your options come down to Locus, ROAM or a Woods. That is the whole list, and Locus is the most interesting name on it.
