Lift Bridge Coffee

Lift Bridge sits on the main floor of Court House Square, the 1910 federal courthouse and customs house that served as Tacoma's first post office. The room is the reason to go: a vast ceiling and mahogany woodwork, in a building most people walk into for the architecture rather than the coffee. The Post Office is still alongside it, so a coffee and an errand can be the same trip.

It runs as a multi roaster rather than a house roaster, sourcing from around the south sound without naming a single supplier. The house style leans toward coffee with unexpected things in it, built on syrups made in house: honey lavender, orange anise, and mint with pink peppercorn. Named drinks on the board have included the Vampire Kiss, an orange mocha, Lavender Fields Forever and a Spring Fling Spritzer.

The public can walk in, which is worth saying because the setting suggests otherwise. It is a tenant cafe on the main floor, and the suite number on its listing is a mailing designation rather than a second floor, so do not go looking upstairs. Court House Square carries ample seating on that floor, which makes it workable for a meeting rather than a counter you pass on the way somewhere.

Pastries come from Spilled Butter Dessert and catering is offered. Two honest gaps: no source names an owner, and breakfast sandwiches were in development during a kitchen renovation, so the food may have moved since. Hours are 7am to 2pm Monday through Friday and it closes at weekends. That close has already shifted two hours earlier since 2024, so check before a late morning trip.
