Filling Station Coffee and Bistro

The name is literal. The building pumped gas before it poured coffee, and the conversion kept the deep forecourt, which is now a patio with real room to spread out. It sits one block off Exit 6, so it is easy to reach and stops feeling like a roadside stop the moment you are in it.

Mornings run on nitro cold brew from the tap and a blend cut for them by a local roaster, which means it is their own recipe rather than their own roastery. Food is more substantial than a pastry case: breakfast sandwiches on an English muffin with sausage or bacon, croissant sandwiches with turkey and white cheddar or ham and Swiss, and 12 inch pepperoni and margherita pizzas.

Thursday through Saturday the room turns over in the evening. Estacion La Merced runs tacos and mulitas out of the kitchen, and the bar pours beer alongside wine bottled under the Filling Station's own labels, including a Villa Rosso, a rose of pinot noir and a riesling blush. A coffee shop that becomes a neighborhood wine bar after dark is not a common shape in Renton.

It opened in July 2024 and is locally owned, describing itself as a ma and pa shop and as where Kennydale comes to fill up. There is free wifi, step free access, validated parking and a welcome for dogs on the patio. One caution: the posted hours disagree between their own site and Google, and the Thursday to Saturday dinner service runs later than either listing suggests, so call before an early or a late trip.
