Xochi

Xochi is a gray trailer in a parking lot on NW Gilman Boulevard, beside the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, and it serves some of the most talked about tacos on the Eastside. Sandra Diaz, who is from Mexico City, runs it. She told the Seattle Times she started it after noticing that nowhere around here was doing tacos de guisado, the stewed fillings served over a small tortilla that are a Mexico City staple, and that she had eaten the Los Angeles version at Guisados and thought she could do better.

The fillings are the menu. Chicken tinga, cochinita pibil braised with orange and cinnamon and topped with pickled onion, encebollados, chorizo with potatoes, chicharron, and a vegetable side of the list that is not an afterthought: rajas in sour cream, calabazas, mushrooms, nopales and papas. Everything goes on a five inch tortilla, which is the right size to order four and regret nothing. The Infatuation scored it 8.6 and called it some of the best tacos in town.

The window is narrow and it matters: 11 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Friday, noon to 4 PM Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Seating is outdoors and limited. Check the menu before you go, because it shifts with what is available.
