Wyldwood Creative calls itself a modern fabric store and makerspace, and it has been on South Third Street in downtown Renton since October 26, 2019. Founder and owner Tawnee Kinnebrew moved from Utah, studied business at Westminster College and opened the shop months before the pandemic closed it in March 2020. It reopened and has been growing since.
The shelves carry modern quilting and garment fabric, precuts and bundles, patterns, notions and bag making hardware, plus kits for quilts, totes, embroidery, cross stitch and needle felting, and gifts. Classes are the other half: sewing lessons, guest artist workshops and just for fun sessions like broom making, candle pouring and watercolor. Every class is priced on a sliding scale, and three scholarship seats a month go to beginners learning to sew.
New classes are posted on the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 in the morning, and they tend to fill. The makerspace can be rented, and a craft exchange corner takes donated supplies and passes them along. The shop is closed Tuesdays, and there is free parking downtown plus a gravel lot behind the building.
