Book Store Poulsbo, WA
The shop opened in 1977 as Shotwell's, which makes it the oldest bookstore in town. Suzanne Droppert took it over in 1996 and ran it for twenty four years. Suzanne Selfors bought it in February 2020 and had roughly a month before the pandemic shut everything.
Selfors writes children's books for a living and is a fifth generation Bainbridge Islander. Her son Walker Ranson is co owner and her co author. The store keeps signed shelves for her own titles and for Kristin Hannah, Susan Wiggs and Lily Lamotte, and a Scandinavian fiction section that Poulsbo has more claim to than most towns.
Six book clubs meet here, including a Nordic group on the fourth Tuesday of the month, and the club titles are twenty percent off in store whether or not you attend. The shop also started the Poulsbo Kids Book Festival, which brings thirty authors to town. Open ten until five most days, and from eleven on Sundays.
