Kent’s Garden & Nursery

Kent Gerard started the nursery in 1976 on five acres north of town, and stocked it with the standard trees and shrubs. Ginny Crump and Nancy Henshaw bought it in 1999 and widened it into perennials, vegetables and annuals. Isaac and Laurie Burrous have had it since 2022.

That is three sets of owners in fifty years, and Henshaw, who first worked here in 1989, is still on the staff. She describes what the place used to be: everything sold off the ground, no tables anywhere. They built it into somewhere you go on purpose rather than somewhere you stop on the way past.

Trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, ornamental grasses, houseplants, natives, hedging, soils, pots and tools. The bareroot roses arrive in February and get potted up ready to go, and the fruit tree list lands at the same time. There is a design service, and the stated aim is growing a healthy community through plants.
