J5 Coffee

J5 roasts its own coffee in Leavenworth, which puts it in a small group among the town's espresso stops. The flagship on 9th Street is an espresso bar and mercantile in one: the counter pours the house organically grown espresso blend, and the shelves sell beans by the pound and the brewing equipment to use them with. Single origins have come from Bolivia, Brazil, Burundi and Costa Rica, with a Swiss Water decaf, and a coffee of the month subscription ships the roast of the moment.

A second, smaller Front Street espresso bar at 707 East US Highway 2 handles the downtown foot traffic and is set up for taking a cup to go rather than sitting. The 9th Street shop has seating, is wheelchair accessible and welcomes dogs.

There is no food menu on the website, so plan on drinks, beans and gear rather than breakfast. Owner Jesse Wilkinson has run it for more than a decade.

One caution before you go: published hours disagree between the company site, the Chamber and the mapping apps, and the two bars keep different schedules. Both close Sundays according to the company site. Check the same day.
