Hardware Sales

Max and Alta McClellan started out on James Street in 1962 selling surplus, logging supplies, foam, paint and dynamite, under the name Powder Sales. When they stopped carrying dynamite the name changed to Hardware Sales. The family is still in it four generations on, with more than a hundred and forty employees.

The store has spread across several blocks and has its own named districts, the Annex, the Balcony, the Cable Shop. The service department is an authorized center for Toro, Honda, Husqvarna, Stihl, Echo, Shindaiwa and BearCat, which means a chainsaw tune up, a mower service, or a chain sharpened on a proper Franzen grinder rather than a replacement you did not want to buy. Pickup and delivery runs by the mile.

At the front counter they cut keys, rescreen windows, repair hose and color match paint. Doors open at seven in the morning through the week, and they are closed Sunday.
