Gere-a-Deli

Laurie and Phil Gere have been feeding Anacortes from this corner of the historic downtown since 1981. For twenty years the deli hosted election night parties. In 2014 Laurie ran herself, unseated a twenty year incumbent, and became the second woman to serve as mayor, a job she held until 2021.

The kitchen works from family recipes made from scratch each day and the board rotates weekly. A week might bring Yukon chowder, navy bean with ham, African chicken peanut and tomato bisque, with clam chowder held back for Friday and Saturday. Sandwiches come on Breadfarm bread from Edison, a turkey pepper jack melt with chipotle mayo, a roast beef melt, a deli club. Salads run to Greek pasta and garden quinoa, and take and bake lasagnas go home for three.

The hours are the thing to note before you drive over: Tuesday through Saturday, nine until four, closed Sunday and Monday.
