Cosmonaut Coffee Co

Cosmonaut began in 2007 as Satellite Coffee, opened by three touring musicians, Ron Heathman, Donny Paycheck and Pat Brown. In 2013 an unrelated Satellite Coffee in Albuquerque sent a trademark threat, and the Tacoma shop became Cosmonaut. Pat Brown is now the sole owner.

The shop is upstairs at 817 Division Avenue, directly across from Wright Park, and it describes its own interior as DIY punk rock meets mid century modern meets unfinished industrial, with a 1960s space theme on top. It is small, with only a handful of seats inside and a few outside, and dogs and kids are welcome.

The coffee is from Cat and Cloud Coffee Roasters with occasional guest roasters; the shop switched away from Stumptown after that company changed hands. There is no named house drink, but the menu runs to sixteen house made syrups and a few drinks you will not find down the street: a mushroom mocha, a golden latte and a beetroot cardamom latte. Chai comes from MyChai. There is no bakery in the building; pastries come from Spilled Butter and donuts from Dude's Donuts.

The hours are the caveat. Open 8 to 2 daily, and the shop's own line is that it might be earlier or later by chance.
