Cafe Tenby

Cafe Tenby is a tea house first, which is worth saying because it sits in a coffee directory. The building at 636 Water Street dates to 1886. For years it was Pippa's Real Tea, and when founder Pippa Mills retired in early 2020, Kelley Winchester and Andrew Griffiths, who had run a cafe in Portland for eight and a half years, took it over and rebuilt it around their baking.

The signature is the Saturday high tea, served by reservation at noon and 2: tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, pastries and fruit, at 55 dollars a person or 65 with sparkling wine. The kitchen cannot make it gluten free or vegan. Breakfast, lunch, scones and pastries are baked in house on other days, and the house teas include Pearls of Wisdom, Ginger Turmeric and Earl Grey Creme. The espresso bar pours Pastime coffee.

Inside there is a tea bar, a window bar, tables, sofas and a fireplace, with a garden courtyard that opens seasonally. The Port Townsend Leader has covered its poetry readings.

Winter hours are Wednesday through Saturday 8 to 4 with the kitchen closing at 2, Sunday 9 to 2:30, closed Monday and Tuesday and on the first Sunday of each month. Summer hours are not posted.
