Banter

Banter is the surviving piece of a concept Emile Diffley started in January 2019 as ANMLY Cafe on Commercial Street. The Prospect Street location opened in 2022 as a 21 and over evening spot called Banter After Hours, the Commercial Street cafe closed that November, and by 2025 the brand was down to this one room. Daniel Souder, who came from hospitality at Steamboat Ski Resort, and Kevin Conchieri bought it on April 30, 2025 and kept the brunch model that had been working.

The item they made a point of keeping is the Banter Burrito: a crisped tortilla with mozzarella, tater tots and avocado. The rest of the menu is breakfast sandwiches, bowls, an avocado smash on sourdough and smoothies with names like Passion and Pain, plus a pastry case. On the drink side the coffee menu includes an ube London fog, a Spanish latte and a lavender matcha latte, and the new owners added cocktails, among them a Santa Rita margarita with house grenadine and a Kyoto Sour built on Japanese whiskey and matcha. The shop does not name its roaster.

There is outdoor seating under umbrellas. Service is daytime only under the new ownership, roughly 8:30 to 3:30 daily, though published hours have drifted between sources since the sale.
