About

Jamie Lutton's bookselling story starts in February 1988, when she was selling used books from a cart on Broadway, as Capitol Hill Seattle Blog told it in March 2022, when the shop began its 35th year on the Hill. The store has been at 1833 Harvard Ave since 2008, and Lutton credited her manager, Ben, with saving the business during the pandemic closure. Capitol Hill Seattle Blog still named Lutton as the owner in July 2025. Twice Sold Tales also runs a shop in Ballard, but this listing covers the Capitol Hill store.

The store's own site promises thousands of used and rare titles spread through many rooms and nooks, plus cats. Six of them are named there: Lily, Buster, Screamer, James, Jinx and Eleanor. AFAR noted in 2021 that the shop goes by the nickname the bookstore with the cats, and pointed to its neon sign and narrow aisles. Readers can trade books for store credit, though the shop does not take in books on weekends. It is open every day, and visitors are invited to tag @twicesoldtales with their cat and book photos.
