Shelf Indulgence bills itself as Tacoma's first romance bookstore, and it gives the genre all 1,400 square feet of its storefront on 6th Avenue. Owner Leana Chase took the keys to a former art studio in August 2025, held a grand opening that October and marked the first anniversary with a weekend party on October 3 and 4, 2026.
The shelves are sorted by subgenre: contemporary, historical, paranormal, dark, fantasy and LGBTQIA+ romance, with collections for indie and BIPOC authors and a focus on Pacific Northwest writers. Many titles carry a pepper rating, from no spice up to five peppers, so you can choose your heat level before you read the back cover. Readers can trade recent romance paperbacks and hardcovers for store credit by appointment, and the calendar runs to release parties, signings and a holiday market.
