Cosmonaut Coffee Co

Cosmonaut traded as Satellite Coffee until 2013, when the owners of a Satellite Coffee in Albuquerque threatened legal action ahead of a franchising push and insisted on a change. Tacoma's answer was to lean the other way entirely and rework the Soviet space program into a coffee brand. The space race identity came out of a real fight, not off a mood board.

The shop sits upstairs at 817 Division Avenue, in a small building on a busy intersection between the Stadium District and Wright Park. Sound Transit's own guide to coffee along the T Line describes the owner's collection of space stuff as what gives the room its atmosphere, and credits a methodical approach on coffee, tea and chai. There is a patio.

Baked goods sit alongside the espresso and tea menu, and bagged coffee is sold through the shop's online store. No source states who roasts for Cosmonaut, so this entry does not name a roaster; ask at the bar if it matters to your visit. Ownership has not been publicly confirmed since the 2013 rename, so no owner is named here either.

The hours are the catch and they are short: 8am to 2pm, every day. Cosmonaut is a morning shop and closes before most people think about an afternoon coffee. Take the cup across to Wright Park, which is a block away and the obvious thing to do with it.
