Lune Cafe

Karrar Hashem sat in a corner booth on Pacific Avenue as a UW Tacoma undergraduate and sketched out the business he wanted. Years later he found the room vacant, signed the lease, and by his own account still works from that same booth. He opened the first Lune in Seattle's Pioneer Square in 2022, nearly lost it in the first year, rebuilt the concept and brought this one home in summer 2025.

It is a dessert cafe that happens to serve coffee rather than the other way round, and it is built for late nights: 9am to 9pm most days and later at weekends. Hashem has said he wanted somewhere open late that was not a bar, reflecting an Arabic hospitality he grew up with, where a long conversation is the whole point.

The Glows explain the odd web address. Lune Glows are the house energy drink line, in Passion, Midnight, Beyond Blue, Beyond Pom, Sunset and Tropical, and there is a Purple Glow latte of lavender and vanilla. The other signature is the Dubai chocolate strawberries, Belgian chocolate with pistachio and konafa, which is what carried the brand around the internet.

The rest is crepes and mini pancakes in triple chocolate, strawberry, Biscoff, pistachio, Kinder Bueno and cookies and cream, a 4 Seasons Waffle, and a Lune Sushi that is a crepe rolled with strawberries and banana. Savory exists too: a cheesy chipotle chicken, a smoked turkey pesto and an avocado truffle burrata sandwich. His wife Rusul runs the marketing, the business is family run, and Tacoma is one of five or six locations.
