Little Barn Candle Co.

Amanda Smith and Devon Blackburn started Little Barn Candle Co. in 2014 and make hand poured soy candles out of a small studio in historic downtown Snohomish, a block off the First Street run. Both describe the same reason for starting: wanting something clean burning in the house without the chemistry that comes with most scented candles.

Everything is poured on site in small batches rather than bought in and relabeled, which is worth knowing because a great many candle brands are not. The range moves with the season, the scents lean woods, pine and the kind of warm domestic notes that suit a Northwest autumn, and the jars are plain enough to sit in a room without announcing themselves. They also wholesale, so you will spot them in other shops around the county.

This is a working studio, not a shopfront with a window display. Google lists open hours of noon to 4 PM Wednesday through Friday and 11 AM to 4 PM Saturday, while the company's own site asks visitors to inquire about studio hours. Check before you drive out.
