About This Course: A West Valley Nine With a New Clubhouse and a Lit Range

Westwood Golf Course in Yakima is a locally owned 9 hole course on Tieton Drive in the West Valley, and the reason to drive over now is what opened around it in October 2025: a new clubhouse, a two level driving range with Inrange ball tracking and lights, and Woodies, a restaurant and bar open to everyone.

The course is a quick nine: par 35 and 2,749 yards from the Blue tees, with two par 3s, six par 4s and a par 5 to finish. Played twice, the card reads 5,498 yards at par 70, with a 65.6 rating and a 109 slope.

Course Overview

Robert Schultz established Westwood in 1965 on 47 acres that had been an apple and pear orchard, on a comical suggestion from Bill Gammie, who packed the fruit grown there, according to the club. The Yakima Herald reported in October 2025 that Sam LaFramboise and Janie Gilbert Plath had bought the course about three years earlier. The old clubhouse, roughly 1,400 square feet, came down on October 18, 2023, and the nine stayed open through two years of construction.

LaFramboise told the Herald that almost all the tee boxes were reshaped and sanded, the greens improved and the sprinklers upgraded, and a new retention pond, which doubles as a water hazard, now sits between the first and ninth holes. On the card, this is a nine for position and wedges: five of the six par 4s measure 354 yards or less from the Blue tees, and the one par 5 is just 405 yards.

• Hole 1, 303 yards, par 4: A short opener, with the new pond between this hole and the 9th.
• Hole 2, 170 yards, par 3: The longer of the two par 3s.
• Hole 3, 138 yards, par 3: The shortest hole and the number 18 handicap.
• Hole 4, 399 yards, par 4: The longest par 4 and the number 2 handicap, the hardest hole on the front nine card.
• Hole 8, 307 yards, par 4: With the 1st, one of two par 4s at 307 yards or less. Club down and leave a full wedge.
• Hole 9, 405 yards, par 5: The only par 5 and the number 4 handicap, reachable in two for longer hitters after a good drive.

Amenities and Practice

The Range at Westwood has two levels of bays, a main floor and an upstairs deck, and Inrange radar shows each ball’s distance, speed, launch and dispersion on a screen behind your tee, with games and virtual rounds on famous courses. The main floor bays are heated, and the club says to book them online in the cold months, when walk ins rarely find one open. Bays book for one hour minimum, then in 30 minute steps, at prices that vary by day, time and season. The Herald reported that lit tee areas let golfers practice after dark; posted summer hours run 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

To warm up, buy a bucket in the pro shop: $10 for 30 balls, $15 for 60 or $20 for 100, with Inrange radar practice but not the multiplayer games. Bring your own clubs or rent the club’s. The Herald also reported a rebuilt practice green north of the clubhouse, twice its old size.

Food and Drink

Woodies is the restaurant and bar in the new clubhouse. LaFramboise described the menu to the Herald as new American with a full bar, and said he wants people searching for the best burger in Yakima to find it here. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with happy hour 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and all day Tuesday. Range players can order at the restaurant and take the food to their bay. The upstairs dining room hosts private events of 40 to 50 in the cooler months, or more than 100 with the deck.

Rates, Tee Times and Local Tips

Westwood posts its 2026 green fees on its rates page: $27 for 9 holes, $20 for juniors, $24 on Senior Monday, $22 on Tightwad Tuesday and $19 for the Back 9 rate. Carts are $11 per rider for 9 holes, or $15 for a solo rider, and a 9 round punch card costs $215 with the 10th round free. Prices include tax for cash; cards carry a 3 percent fee.

Book tee times by phone at 509-966-0890 or in person; there is no online tee sheet. Off season golf hours run sunrise to sunset seven days a week, and frost or snow can delay or close the course, so call on a cold morning. From April through September, leagues play Wednesday mornings and Wednesday and Thursday evenings. This fall’s calendar has the Spooky 2 Man Scramble, an 18 hole Halloween tournament, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and a one year anniversary party on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

How to Score Here

• Club down on the 1st and 8th, both 307 yards or less, and leave your favorite wedge.
• Take your par on the 4th, the longest par 4, and move on.
• Attack the 3rd. At 138 yards it is the easiest hole on the card.
• Hit a $10 small bucket first and let the radar check your wedge distances.

Final Word

A quick 1965 nine with a brand new clubhouse, a heated and lit two level range and a bar that welcomes everyone, Westwood is the easy after work round in Yakima’s West Valley.
