About This Course: 7,231 Yards and 700 Feet of Climb Above Lake Chelan

Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course is a public 18 hole championship course on Bear Mountain Ranch Road in Chelan, spread across 350 acres with 700 feet of elevation gain. The reason to make the drive is scale: from the Black tees it plays 7,231 yards, with a 680 yard par 5 to finish, panoramic views and Lake Chelan behind the 7th green. Five sets of tees on every hole bring it down to 5,043 yards from the Red tees.

The course is open from April through October, and the 2026 season ends October 31. Green fees include a shared cart, and the cafe is open daily until it closes for the year on October 12.

Course Overview

Bear Mountain Ranch opened in April 2005. A 2009 Spokesman Review story credits the design to Jerry Scofield, a developer, and Robin Yount, a landscape architect, and the course says it was ranked one of the top six new courses in the country by PGA Professionals after it opened. In 2014 Golfweek rated it 10th best in Washington. Greens are bent and poa, fairways rye.

From the back tees this is a long, demanding card. The Black tees carry a 74.6 rating and a 140 slope, the four par 5s run 551 to 680 yards, and three of the par 4s measure more than 415. The par 3s run 193 to 233 yards. The natural grass desert areas play as a lateral penalty area, and the course expects a round in four and a half hours or less.

Hole by Hole Highlights

Yardages are from the Black tees, from the course’s own scorecard.

  • Hole 3, 204 yards, par 3: The first of three par 3s over 200 yards.
  • Hole 4, 417 yards, par 4: The tee shot drops about 170 feet, and the approach plays over side by side bunkers set in front of a waste area short of the green.
  • Hole 5, 596 yards, par 5: The number 3 handicap hole. Three solid shots get you there.
  • Hole 7, 233 yards, par 3: The longest par 3, played downhill to a green guarded on the front left by a pond ringed with reeds, with bunkers on both sides and the lake behind.
  • Hole 8, 551 yards, par 5: The number 1 handicap hole, the hardest on the course.
  • Hole 14, 586 yards, par 5: The par 5 with a green on a point above the lake, so the layup sets up everything.
  • Hole 15, 486 yards, par 4: The longest par 4 on the course and the number 4 handicap.
  • Hole 18, 680 yards, par 5: The number 2 handicap hole, with a wide creek bed in front of the green to decide on with your second or third shot.

Amenities and Practice

The practice range stays open as long as the golf shop, except on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when it closes for maintenance. A small bucket is $5 for 30 to 35 balls and a large bucket is $10 for 70 to 75. Head Golf Professional Chase Snodgrass teaches lessons and handles group and tournament bookings.

Rental clubs come in right and left hand, at $40 for 9 holes and $65 for 18. Carts carry a GPS system, drivers must be 16 with a valid license, and a non golfer riding along pays $15 for 9 holes or $20 for 18. The golf shop is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Food and Drink

The Bear Mountain Ranch cafe is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day and closes for the season on October 12. Outside alcohol and coolers are not allowed; every drink on the course has to come from Bear Mountain Ranch.

Rates, Tee Times and Local Tips

These are the 2026 green fees on the course’s own rate sheet, posted in October and checked October 4, 2026, and every rate includes a shared cart. In the peak season, May 1 to October 15, 18 holes are $115 Monday through Thursday and $145 Friday through Sunday, with twilight from 2 p.m. at $85 and $95. Nine holes are $70 and $80, and juniors pay $55 for 18. In the late season, October 15 to closing on October 31, 18 holes drop to $75 on weekdays and $85 Friday through Sunday, and 9 holes to $40 and $50. These rates end when the course closes October 31; check for 2027 rates before the April opening.

Book up to 30 days ahead through the Bear Mountain Ranch online tee sheet, or call 509-682-8200 for anything further out. A credit card holds the time, and cancellations must be made during business hours at least a day ahead; day of cancellations are charged in full. The course is soft spikes only and fivesomes need the golf shop’s permission. The $125 NCW Players Card takes 25% off green fees here and discounts play at the group’s other three courses.

Plan the rest of the weekend with the Lake Chelan guide. Camp or swim at Lake Chelan State Park on the south shore, and for a second round at a city course price, play Lake Chelan Golf Course in town.

How to Score Here

  • Pick the right tees. There are eight options on the card, from 5,043 to 7,231 yards, and the slope runs from 111 to 140.
  • Stay out of the natural grass areas. They play as a lateral penalty area, and relief costs a stroke.
  • Take par on No. 8 and No. 18, the two hardest holes, and look for birdie on No. 17, the easiest.
  • On No. 18, decide before your second shot whether you can carry the creek bed in front of the green; laying up short of it is the safe play.

Final Word

Bear Mountain Ranch is the long hillside test of a Chelan golf trip, with enough tee sets to fit any game, and late season rates from October 15 that take $40 to $60 off a round of 18.
