Winegar’s Coffee and Creamery

The Winegar family ran an Ellensburg dairy for 35 years before they started making ice cream in 1992, and that is still the heart of the business. Truman and Phoebe Winegar founded it, and their grandchildren Kori and Richelle Winegar run it now. Espresso came in 1996, and this location on University Way opened on Valentine's Day 2015 inside an addition that Jerrol's Book and Supply built specifically for it, so you can walk from the ice cream counter straight into the bookstore.

The flavors carry the family's names and the valley's landmarks: Kori's Coffee, Phoebe's Strawberry, Mount Stuart Vanilla, Kookie Kayla and Kevinlicious. Root beer floats are on the menu as Grandpa Don's. On the drink side there is espresso, cold brew and a house energy drink menu the shop calls Extreme Bull infusions, plus sandwiches added when this location opened.

The room seats around 40 to 45 with outdoor seating out front, and there is a second Winegar's at University Way and Alder with about 30 seats. The old Main Street location closed in 2014.

Hours run long for Ellensburg: the company site lists 6 in the morning to 8 at night Sunday through Thursday and to 9 on Friday and Saturday, though the online ordering page shows a slightly shorter day, so a late evening scoop is worth a call first.
