The White House Cafe

The White House Cafe

Restaurant Yakima, WA

The White House Cafe fills a historic farmhouse in west Yakima, a house tied to the Kern family, who grew orchards in this part of the valley. It has served breakfast and lunch there for more than two decades, and since September 2023 it has belonged to Tamara Alexander and her daughter Ellie, who had each worked in the cafe for about ten years before the previous owner sold it to them.

Breakfast runs to omelets, croissant sandwiches and fresh baked cinnamon rolls. Lunch is where the house specialties show up, including a chicken salad sandwich the cafe calls a White House original and a turkey cranberry sandwich, and the dessert case holds tarts, cupcakes, pies and cakes. Tea comes out in a proper tea set, which suits the room.

The cafe also offers bed and breakfast rooms upstairs, with a shared bath and a full breakfast included. It is a grown up stay, with no children or pets, and Yakima's tasting rooms are about ten minutes away. The house and its garden host showers, weddings and parties, and the kitchen caters. Breakfast starts at 8 on weekdays and 9 on weekends, and lunch runs until 2 in the afternoon.
