The Oak Table Cafe

The Oak Table is a third generation breakfast house, and the lineage is worth knowing before you order. Nikki's grandparents ran a Dog N Suds in Chicago. Her parents, Billy and Mary Nagler, learned the trade there, moved to the Olympic Peninsula in 1981 and opened the original Oak Table Cafe in Sequim. Nikki and Ross opened this Silverdale room, which the Kitsap Daily News reported in 2014 was coming the following year.

Pancakes are the point. The kitchen starts at dawn mixing batters from the family recipes, and the sourdough pancakes come off a nurtured starter that gives them a texture ordinary buttermilk batter does not get near. The apple pancake is the one people drive for: baked rather than griddled, caramelized, and served on the painted plates the cafe has always used. Crepes, omelets and scratch syrups fill out a menu that does not pretend to be anything other than breakfast done properly.

Open 7 AM to 3 PM every day, with breakfast served all day. Expect a wait at weekends. Three thousand reviews at 4.7 is not a quiet local secret.
