The Leaning Maple

The Leaning Maple is named for a real tree, an old growth maple leaning at a steep angle over a clearing near Woodard Bay in Boston Harbor. The Slosson family, six generations in Olympia, grew up meeting there, and the restaurant on Washington Street downtown carries the same invitation. Becky, Kate, Cody and Nate Slosson run it together.

Every dish in the kitchen is gluten free, not as an option but as the whole premise, so anyone who has to ask about cross contamination can stop asking. The menu runs to sweet waffles under fruit and warm chocolate, savory waffles with melted cheese, bacon or smoked salmon, crepes and baked goods. Coffee comes from Ember Goods, tea from Encore Teas, and the beer, wine and champagne list is short and chosen. There is retail in the room too, one of a kind finds alongside the tables.

Open every day from nine to two, with live piano on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from ten to noon. Reservations need a day's notice.
