Shipwreck Cafe

Shipwreck Cafe

Restaurant Olympia, WA

The Shipwreck Cafe opened in February 1995 and inherited its name from the tired little restaurant that came with the building. Its current home on Madrona Beach Road, out on Olympia's west side, was once The Place, a Westside institution in its own right, so this room has been feeding the neighborhood under one name or another for a very long time.

Breakfast runs all day and so does everything else. The Hangover buries hash browns under sausage gravy, cheddar, bacon and sausage links. The Hangtown Fry and the fried oyster plate both use Taylor Shellfish oysters, the loco moco comes Oly style, and the cod is wild Alaskan, hand breaded in house. Fridays bring prime rib from five.

Thirty or so photographs of shipwrecks from around the world hang on the walls, which is either decor or a warning.
