The Outskirts Brewing Co. takes its name from where it sits, on the edge of both Selah and Yakima off Test Drive Lane. Five Yakima Valley natives own it, Joe Catron, Patrick Gasseling, Chase Webster, Josh Johnson and Cody Beebe, with ties to the hop industry among them. They bought the property in 2019, rode out a pandemic delay and opened on May 15, 2023, in a restored barn about a century old.
The barn gives it room: about 6,200 square feet on three acres with a 10 barrel brewhouse, a restaurant, a cocktail bar, a tasting room, a fireplace and an indoor stage. Outside there is a patio with creek views, an outdoor bar and a concert stage for its live music series, and Visit Yakima calls it family owned and family friendly.
The core beers carry western names: Brush Popper Light, Barn Raiser IPA, Buckle Bunny Blonde, Canyon Crusher Pale, the Irish I Was a Cowboy nitro stout, My Oh My IPA and Wenas Light Pilsner, with guest taps, local wine and cocktails alongside. Its Fresh Hop Country Pale took best in show for fresh hop beers at the 2023 Yakima Fresh Hop Festival. The kitchen turns out a signature bison burger, waffle fry nachos, steaks, salmon and prawn fettuccine. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, with the latest nights on Friday and Saturday.
