Page 42 Bookstore sells used books at prices meant for readers on any budget, and it describes itself as the low price leader for books in Spokane. Emily Peterson managed the shop while studying at Gonzaga, and when the previous owners offered to sell, she bought it in January 2021 with Alicia, her friend of more than 16 years. In 2024 the store moved from North Hamilton Street to the corner of Euclid Avenue and Crestline Street in the Bemiss neighborhood.
Most books sell for $5 or less. Every four to six weeks in warm weather, the store sets out as many as 10,000 books outside for its quarter sale, which ends with a day when everything outside is free. Books traded in earn store credit that does not expire. The store also runs a summer reading program for kids, vendor fairs in the parking lot and private bookings.
