Garland District, Spokane, WashingtonEastern Region
A Garland District bookshop for the odd and hard to find, with an occult section, a horror wall, comics, crime paperbacks and natural history specimens mixed into the stacks.
Giant Nerd Books is the Garland District stop for strange, fringe and hard to find books. Owner Nathan Huston started out selling from a consignment space inside Timebomb Collectibles, then ran a showroom on North Monroe Street before moving to 607 W. Garland Avenue in 2021, into a shop about four times the size of the old one.
The stacks run to an occult section, Eastern philosophy, a full horror wall, art books, classic literature, science and crime paperbacks, with comics and vintage oddities worked in between. Natural history specimens sit among the books, a nod to the old curiosity shops Huston loved growing up. New and used titles share the shelves, so plan to stay longer than you meant to. Look for Elvira, the shop dog, who greets customers.
