Zeitgeist Coffee

Zeitgeist has been Pioneer Square's art and coffee house since 1997, and the gallery is a working one. A new show of local art opens on every First Thursday Art Walk, with an artist reception from 6 to 8pm, and long walls of exposed brick carry the work. Macrina Bakery, which supplies the cafe, says it has also hosted live music, readings and film screenings, and Zeitgeist rents the space out for events.

Leesa Kunke joined as a barista in 2000, became the manager, and took over as owner in 2023, according to the cafe's own history page. For coffee, Fulcrum Coffee wrote in 2024 that Zeitgeist pours its beans after cycling through several roasters, and Macrina says the same. An older line on Zeitgeist's own site still mentions illy, so ask what is on the grinder if it matters to you. Fulcrum also equipped the Coffee TAB program in Belltown.

The menu covers breakfast and lunch, including baked egg sandwiches, one served on Macrina brioche, and Macrina supplies most of the pastries, the sandwich bread and, since 2020, the bagels. The room is a big Pioneer Square brick space with large windows and floor to ceiling bookshelves alongside the art walls. Online ordering runs through ChowNow.

Hours are posted two ways on Zeitgeist's own site. Google and the main listing agree on 6am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and 8am to 2pm on Sunday, and the site adds an 8pm close on First Thursdays; an older footer shows later hours, so check before a late visit. In 2025 Zeitgeist opened a second spot, Georgetown Zeitgeist at 5327 Denver Ave S, serving weekday breakfast and lunch from 7am to 2pm.
