C and P Coffee Company

This is a house, and that is the point. C and P occupies a 1904 Craftsman on California Avenue SW, up a flight of brick steps behind an orange front door with blue trimmed windows, and the main room keeps its hardwood floors and original brick fireplace. Front and rear cobblestone decks, red umbrellas and a garden pergola with turquoise metal chairs make the yard half the room on a dry day. Pete and Cameron have run it since 2003.

The coffee is Lighthouse Roasters, which roasts at 43rd and Phinney in north Seattle and has its own entry in this directory. C and P pours it through a full espresso bar and sells the beans whole by the bag. A rotating selection of beer and wine sits alongside the coffee, which is why the room works as well at 7pm on a Friday as it does at 7am.

Baked goods are locally sourced, with vegan and wheat free options in the case. The house doubles as an event space: a small low stage in the main room hosts live music, open mics, poetry and storytelling, arts and crafts fairs and lectures, and the whole place rents for parties and weddings, with room for 50 indoors. The shop's own site invites you to bring a laptop and make yourself at home.

Hours are 6am to 6pm Monday through Thursday, 6am to 8pm Friday, 7am to 8pm Saturday and 7am to 6pm Sunday. The front entrance is up steps; an accessible parking spot and an ADA ramp are in the back lot, reached from the alley between Findlay and Juneau Streets. Check the events calendar before a weekend visit, since a private rental can change what the room feels like.
