A downtown Spokane bookstore cafe devoted to mystery, science fiction, fantasy and horror, with new and used books, coffee, beer, wine and light plates in the 1901 Wharton Building.
Jupiter's Eye Book Cafe pairs a bookstore built around mystery, science fiction, fantasy and horror with a full cafe pouring coffee, tea, beer and wine. Morgan Lynch, a Spokane native, opened it in January 2025 in the 1901 Wharton Building on First Avenue, whose ground floor once housed the Spokane Paper Company. The name nods to the calm eye of Jupiter's storm and to Jupiter Jones of The Three Investigators.
New and used copies share the shelves, under labels like space opera and cozy mystery. The kitchen keeps it simple, with warm sandwiches, brie and honey, a snack board and local pastries. Emerald walls, raw wood shelves and jazz set a quiet mood by day, and the evening calendar brings trivia nights, author talks and midnight release parties. A large round table seats up to eight and can be reserved for groups.
