McGlinn’s Public House

The Garland Building went up in 1922 as the Orondo Recreation Club, with a billiard hall in the basement, a card room and tobacco shop at street level, and apartments above that housed Great Northern railroad crews and the men building Rock Island Dam.

Through the thirties and forties the upper floors were home to the Wenatchee Chiefs, a farm team for the Yankees and later the Cubs. The building became the sports headquarters for North Central Washington, with baseball standings and college football results posted daily for anyone who wanted to come and read them.

The kitchen now runs a wood fired oven. The Wenatchee Apple and Bacon pizza carries local organic apple, Hempler's bacon, gorgonzola, fontina and maple syrup, and the Wild Mushroom Nest arrives with an egg on top. Burgers are pressed from Post 5 Cattle beef, the beer bread returns as French toast under star anise syrup, and there is a wine slushee. Live music plays the parklet on Wednesdays and Sundays.
