Mobius Discovery Center is downtown Spokane’s hands on science and play museum, located in the Post Street annex of the historic Washington Water Power building, right across the street from Riverfront Park. It is a nonprofit, and its mission is to create experiences that equip and inspire creative problem solvers of all ages.

Mobius combines two earlier institutions under one roof: the play based Mobius Children’s Museum and the inquiry based Mobius Science Center. The result is a single exhibit floor where toddlers, grade schoolers and the adults with them can all find something to do, and it pairs naturally with a day at Riverfront Park.

What You’ll See

  • H2O Flow: A visitor favorite water table where kids use movable barriers to build currents and waterways while learning about buoyancy and flow.
  • Secrets of Bees: Observe a hive, crawl into a giant beehive, dress like a beekeeper and practice extracting and selling honey.
  • Launch It! and Super Dig: Explore the science of flinging, flying and launching, then practice your excavation skills in the dig pit.
  • Wattson’s World: An exhibit on energy conservation and safety, with backyard games powered by your own movement.
  • Enchanted Forest: A soft, sensory play zone for little ones three and under.
  • Live animals and the STEAM Lab: Meet reptiles and other animals, and join educator led science, technology, engineering, art and math activities in the lab.

You will also find a makerspace for upcycled creations, an art studio, a pretend eye clinic, a kids market with oversized coins and Cooper’s Corner, a bicycle and traffic safety exhibit named in memory of a Spokane boy.

The Story Behind It

For about 15 years, the Mobius Children’s Museum operated in the lower level of River Park Square, while the separate Mobius Science Center occupied the Post Street building. In September 2020, facing the financial strain of the pandemic, Mobius announced it would consolidate. The children’s museum moved into the science center’s space, and the two were rebuilt as Mobius Discovery Center, keeping the most popular exhibits from each.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Mobius is designed for families: children must be with an adult 16 or older, and adults need to be accompanied by a child to explore the exhibit floor.
  • Food and drink are not allowed on the exhibit floor, and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Mobius offers a weekly Sensory Friendly Hour before regular opening, plus free sensory supportive kits with noise canceling headphones and fidgets at the admissions desk.
  • Post Street is one way with metered parking near City Hall, and River Park Square Parking Garage offers covered parking nearby.
