A Course With Character
Discovery Bay isnβt your typical resort courseβitβs rich with quirks and stories that make it one-of-a-kind. Among them:
The original first tee required golfers to hit over Cape George Road on a 300-yard par 4
A now-retired elevated platform tee box resembled a hangmanβs gallows (minus the trap door)
The land was once part of the Saintβs Rest Inn, later the Chevy Chase Innβseveral original buildings still stand and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places
And thereβs even local legend: in 1862, three men landed on the beach with a stolen chest of gold sovereignsβpart of a British payroll heist. The treasure has never been recoveredβ¦ though you never know what a well-placed sand wedge might dig up.
